Car Plates 2013

No, I hadn’t stopped collecting pictures of car plates we pass as we go around HK. But it’s been…… 18 months? since I last put one up (just too many other posts). Readers who’ve followed my blog for longer might remember when I do this it’s usually “intermission” before we end up somewhere other than Hong Kong. Been awhile since I did it. If you remembered, you could…….. consider doing fx or equity trading!

(Not….. as weird as you think, from the old “belief” that the best vanilla fx guys are long in the tooth and have elephant memories – they can remember how the market (a.k.a. other traders with their human tendencies) reacted last time there was similar economic data released in the States the political situation in Iceland or Greece was similar, or etc. I know an actual guy in the very local Singapore market people referred to with this story, some 10 years ago. Y’know, the usual stuff – very fearless trading position, it moves against his favor, he packs on the position all the way down before it bounces back, he makes shit load of money for the bank and people tell (then) newbies like me the whole thing with much eye widening and hushed tones of reverence. I should just skip the princess and frog happily ever after stories; when I try those Rockstar interrupts with – “Is that Fact or Fiction?” I even have a Fact or Fiction app on my phone…)

Anyway car plates. What I was supposed to be doing before I went yarning off again.

And you shall receive this ?

And you shall receive this little Cayenne? Why you bought it?

This one should be "Ask"

This one should be “Ask”… Well “Wow” works too, but I prefer “Bow Wow.” As in the sound a dog makes.

He's not a dog or a plate, but he should be.

He’s not a dog or a plate, but he should be.

Because "Lucky" and "Lucky1" were obviously taken

Must be because various other Lucky permutations were taken

See?

See?

People who get to drive these cars are obviously fearless. And creative.

....sarcastic...

….sarcastic…

And FUNNY!

And FUNNY! (Be funnier if that’s on a taxi)

Also philosophical....

Also philosophical….

And...

And –

Rockstar tells me his sometimes fervent looking out along his school bus route are for such as these...

And this.

And this. And in parting…..

Also this. (But why is this?)

Also this. (If anyone can tell me why IS this?)

Stay tuned…….

Have you asked Rockstar what would he put on his car plate if he owns a car next time?

Is it very expensive to buy a customised car plate in HK? What’s the maximum length allowed and how many words?

Jolly good questions! I think you bid for the plates, so I suppose it isn’t expensive particularly if it’s something only meaningful to you, like an anniversary date. But if it’s something very “hot” then obviously very ex. The other interesting one I think is they use stock number codes – say, some CEO of HSBC might simply put “5”. Pretty much everyone in HK would know 5 HK is HSBC…

Rockstar’s preference changes, from something like “policeman” to “Jupiter” which was a table group in class last year and yes, the biggest planet in the solar system, stuff like that… Sorry I don’t know what the max length is…
