Yup, not one of those posts I always just knew I’d write. Kings rushed Rockstar to the ped’s this morning (Saturday! Half day! They’re usually swamped! Ditto Mondays!) while I stayed behind with the baby after he woke up looking like this:
Yes it’s actually swollen to the point his left eye appears much smaller. He’s had much milder cases fairly often (to be exact, when he uses what is otherwise supposed to baby safe sunblock and then spends a day in the sun). Don’t know what gives, it’s supposed to be baby safe but he’s had a rash several times – he doesn’t get it on other parts of him where we apply it, only his cheeks (not even the forehead). AND btw his classmates have even borrowed the exact same stick and they had no problems either. Go figure.
So anyway doc says it isn’t serious, he just has really sensitive skin…
Hope Rockstar gets back his normal face now. Hahaha, did you ask him to purse his lips for your photo to look more like “hamster face”? Was Rockstar shocked by his own red cheeks?
Did the doctor give him anything for this? Any clue what is the ingredient in the sunblock to have caused this?
Have a good Sunday! 🙂
We don’t tell him to do anything besides look at the camera, I didn’t even notice he was doing that til u mentioned… And now I look at the several pics I took, he did that in every one.. He said “Ha ha hamster face! Take a picture! Take a picture!”
Haha you’re not the only one asking me now if we know what the ingredient is that’s causing his allergic reaction; we don’t really know, he’s had that when we were nowhere near the beach either, just sun + that sun block… But I can speculate the addition of sea water might have aggravated it because I find HK sea water has a lot of pollutants in it – when I wake boarded I would get the worst rash from doing it in HK, occasionally mild rash doing it elsewhere.. Sometimes just walking through polluted construction areas here my eyes swell up… You can even see a lot of discarded batteries in the sand at Sai Kung beach when it’s low tide… Unfortunately can’t help it living here unless we can stay perpetually in a bubble… pollution is one of the things I hate most about living here…
We like to use a tiny bit of Elomet, it used to be quite easily available in Malaysian pharmacies the one time we looked for it there, we don’t use much of anything and haven’t tried looking for it in HK recently… We were advised to simply ice his cheeks when he gets that, part of the reason I agreed to him seeing doc was cos he also hasn’t been back to see his ped in awhile, we thought he would when he had his vaccinations coming up but then he chose to do it all at his school clinic… They must really make him feel comfortable there…
Dear Aileen,
Happy Mother’s Day!
thanks dear. Hope you had a good time taking your family out too 🙂
My sis is allergic to SPF… Or so she says… 1st time I ever heard of it really. Her cheeks turn red too. So she can’t use any sunscreen. N yes, she has freckles 🙂
OMG really, wow… I was trying to wrap my head around SPF allergy, I guess that means an allergy to actual sunscreen itself.. That’s interesting, I hadn’t heard of that either, Rockstar as a rule hates creams on his face, whether moisturizer or sunblock so we only use the stick kind on his face, and generally don’t apply sunblock v often even then – usually let him wear a hat since he likes hats anyway and at the height of hk summer I also find it very very uncomfortable to have much gunk on your face.. So basically never came across his allergic reaction much… Btw both kings and I prefer dark skin so sometimes I apply fake tan 😀
Teehee re your calling Rockstar “Hamster Face” (as well as “Rockstar”)! ;b
I used to call my (younger) brother Toad or Frog Face. It also seemed appropriate because he loved cars when he was a kid like Toad of Toad Hall (from “The Wind in the Willows” stories)… ;b
There’s a special place in one’s heart for the most benign OR the weirdest nicknames – especially if they come from someone else near and dear. My parents’ nicknames for me are Shorty or Squirt because at 5ft almost 7′ I’m shorter than both of em 😛
