Rockstar comes home off the school bus real huffy, apparently at some point during the day having been told by a little girl (not a classmate phew!) to shut it…
Rockstar: (Indignantly) She was the one talking! And then she tells everyone else to stop talking! She says she reads at Level 38! There is no Level 38…….
And on and on, various gripes I’m only half listening to until…
Me: What was that? How could you possibly bring up NASA in that conversation?
Rockstar: So she said “I’m really good at spelling. I can spell America. A-M-E-R-I-C-A. I can spell Australia. I can spell -” so then I said “I bet you can’t spell ‘National Aeronautics and Space Administra -‘” (indignantly, at me) WHY are you laughing?

(Is this how they do Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better nowadays, next will be I Write Better C++ 😀 …And then another little girl who obviously has the highest EQ of all 3 of them would be “You Rockstar are best in this area, you Other Girl are best in this other area…” 😀 Kids these days really seem to grow up so much faster than we did….!)
And it’s just after Merdeka Day!
SELAMAT HARI MERDEKA to all the Malaysians!
I originally took a pic of a sunburned tourist wearing a tee with the Malaysia flag at Hari Raya at a kopitiam for when I wished everyone Happy Independence Day…
But anyway here’s a couple random pics of the rest of the family too…
ps: Kings is actually away again; pic above was last week at church when he couldn’t get up after 5 o’clock service because both kids were totally asleep on him…
..write better C++? Has Rockstar started learning computer programming?
Hehehe, Can see Rockstar is very serious and competitive when it comes to studies.
Thank you for the family photos.
Have a good week!
I have to qualify that while Rockstar is very serious (about most things in general, as well as studies) he is actually NOT very competitive. It’s actually something we are quite proud of to b honest, because neither Kings nor I erm, “failed to share” when we were in school – we were both at least mildly socially awkward and made friends by letting other kids photocopy our notes and essays 😀 In fact I kinda hope any edge Rockstar might have helps him make friends too, because he is otherwise a very serious, thin-skinned child who is possibly the tiniest and youngest. Rockstar usually doesn’t mind being beaten fair and square (though he has wished before that if he is beaten it be by kids he likes haha)
He said he didn’t think the girl he “NASA-ed” was “that” smart, “just annoying” (I am aware however that he can sometimes get annoyed quite easily haha). To be fair, he has occasionally been paired in school work with girls whom he has described to be “really, really good” or “better than anyone else in our group” at reading or whatever. As in, he has been known to give credit where it’s due. Also, because he’s so serious about schoolwork, he does naturally respect ability (though I suppose that’s long as it isn’t too obnoxious). He says occasionally kids tell him when they get bumped up a reading level before him, his narration of those has always been simply matter-of-factly… We usually tell him he should not expect stuff to be too easy at school because he is possibly the youngest, compared to the others…
Better C++ is a private joke – Kings had a habit of buying un-age-appropriate toys for Rockstar esp in terms of Lego etc. About a year ago he was kiddie toy shopping with a structurer ex colleague – serious quant from Middle East ok – and he nearly bought something that required C++. His ex colleague said “If (Rockstar) can do that I’ll hire him.” 😀
Thank you Aileen for correcting me that Rockstar is not competitive. 🙂 and for sharing the private joke on C++.
But it is good that Rockstar takes learning seriously.
