We recently got to see some of Rockstar’s schoolwork at the parent-teacher meeting, and I took a picture of this one so I could ask him about it…
Me: Come, come look at this. Remember this? Remember what you told me about this?
Rockstar: What? Oh yeah. Hee.
Rockstar had come home very, very excited the day after they performed this experiment, so when we were in the car I read out to him from my phone what was supposed to happen… He of course found great relish in the science words because well he’s weird. Couple weeks later he then mentioned they now had to write down the results of the experiment, which I hadn’t expected and therefore never asked beforehand whether he could spell any of it. And THEN this is what he did ok…
Me: Look at this. You spelled “calcium carbonate” and “citric acid”. That’s why I took the picture – WHY did you tell me you spelled it wrong?
Rockstar: Hmm? What?
Me: You told me you spelled it “K-A-L-S-E-U-M like ‘museum'” when you came back from school that day. And you said “citric acid” was “S-Y-T-R-I-K”. I even have a blog post in my drafts folder that I nearly put up simply because of the crazy spelling! (Except then I hadn’t thought it was that funny so didn’t post it). Why did you tell me you spelled it wrong?
Rockstar: Can’t remember now. Maybe I wanted to surprise you.
Me: That’s really weird. Did you know you got the spelling correct?
Rockstar: <thinks for awhile> Not really, but I remember I was trying my best. Cos my teacher checks it. <nods convincingly>
Me: So when I asked you….
Rockstar: I wasn’t really trying.
Me: Thanks a lot. And you can spell “Calcium Carbonate” but you can’t spell “turned”???
Rockstar: What? Where? I don’t see it…… (Bursts out laughing when I point it out)
Rockstar: I didn’t even see that. I was trying to write that very fast so I wouldn’t forget. (Friend) was talking, talking to me, I think she was telling me what to write because we’re partners but I don’t really know because I wasn’t listening…
Me: What did she say when she saw what you wrote?
Rockstar: Nothing, I don’t think she saw that part, she was still talking, Mum. <nodding convincingly> Girls talk A. Lot.
I just thought it was really funny how he said that the exact same way he talked about his discoveries in the science experiment… And I didn’t know he picked up that much, he comes home almost every day with some nugget of information like, “Do you know there are only 300 red foxes left in the world?”…or maybe he searched it during Youtube time… Which goes to show how motivated he must have been to do so…. Ninja Turtles are NOT easy to beat ok….
ps: Sorry everyone, Little Miss was down with a really bad cold which even had her throwing up lotsa phlegm a few days ago; she’s only just recovering so linky party’s really late…
Hope Miss Rockstar is better now. Have a good weekend!
Rockstar really is interested in the experiment and science. he can spell big words.
I credit the school for that, I think it’s their learning-via-discovery way of teaching stuff to make it more interesting… I mean he’s always had more interest in non-fiction than fiction and is a self-professed fusspot about some of the stuff he reads, but it really started to take off from various bits of schoolwork he had a chance to do…
I don’t even know what it means. Not even a question if I can spell it. Haha.
