An eagle-eyed reader (whom we had not had the pleasure of knowing before) spotted this ad which was apparently published in Singapore newspaper TODAY, on 19 August – then recognized it from this blog post. So driving about in the middle of the mountains, Rockstar asleep in the car, we switch on the Wifi and nearly drive off the road when we receive a scanned picture of the newspaper page, of which here’s the ad bit:
Aside from the photoshop-ed insect repellant patch on his collar…
I’ll get round to sending them an email eventually since I guess they would like to know whoever put this ad together for them took the pic either from this blog or Kings’ Facebook without saying anything to us…
What I really wanted to say on the blog however was how the kind reader even asked if we would like to be mailed a copy of the newspaper as a souvenir…
That was so nice…
At least not in some inappropriate ads…. But nonetheless, it’s still rude they did not ask for permission first.
Hhmmm, did they do it without permission to run away from paying ad talents/models? How awful of them!
Ya. Did not ask for permission at all.
Erm… Actually how much could they pay for something like that though… My first assumption was some intern just happily surf for a random pic of a cute kid to use… ie it was plain thoughtlessness… But of course I have nothing to support any assumptions, if not for the nice person who told us, we wouldn’t even know about it…
(Oh btw Kings put on his Facebook and some friends in Singapore said things like they actually saw the ad and were thinking the kid looks so familiar :D)
If they buy a single photo from a photo bank or photo library, I think it will cost them around USD3 (not that much).
Wow. That reminds me of this American (?) family who found their family photo in some huge billboard ad in Russia or something. Ok, I’m hazy on the details but something like that did happen.
And yes. Rude.
Hahaha family pic appearing on giant billboard with Russian writing, am I the only one who thinks that’s just a little funny? Thanks for mentioning that…!
Was only planning to tell them nicely to be honest… cos I don’t think they’d b happy it was done, it doesn’t make them look v good that this happened..
Thanks for the comments (and stories!) everyone.. Btw my reaction would’ve been wayy stronger if I thought this somehow affected my child adversely..

I was paid $100 for an advertising agency taking a photo of our very mundane white metal letterbox … $100!!! I think your child, and a very cute one at that, is worth a heck of a lot more.
