It’s a beautiful afternoon for a walk on a trail…

One of an unusual number of near-perfect-weather days in HK, and you’re just enjoying a nice peaceful walk like so…..

And so…..

And so…..

And s – Oh crap there’s some Scary Intense Animal waiting on high to pounce!

All these years it never occurred to me why passersby on the trail will round a corner, then start if they happen to look to the rock face 5 feet above their heads.

JD takes her stick-catching very, very seriously. So seriously, umpteen tourists and little kids have climbed up to take a picture with the Dog Statue as she herds the tree branch I’m holding.

But lest she be taken too seriously, here be her sometime companions on the trail…

In fact, sometimes it’s like they have their own parade.

(Seriously though, how fetish-y is the pink one’s getup?)

I’ll be scared to walk past a dog standing five feet above my head. What if it decides to jump on me?

Yeah if it weren’t central Hong Kong I might be scared too… especially with her facial expression (btw, she sits in the front seat of our car – less dog hairs in one seat – and that gets some attention from pedestrians at traffic lights and such too… Because she has that very serious face even as she sways about to the car’s motion)

Touch wood I think HK are quite efficient about handling calls re aggressive (or etc) strays (by comparison with some other Asian cities I mean)… A few Christmases ago locals told me some kids threw a bunch of strays off a pier in freezing single-digit Celsius weather in the night, and the police came and spent an hour fishing the mutts out… that I know of none drowned… Selling dog meat is illegal in HK btw, locals call the cops on that too…
